FAQ

Our Ranch & Farming Practices

What is Onion Creek Ranch?

Onion Creek Ranch is a family-operated ranch focused on raising high-quality beef with care, integrity, and transparency. We are committed to responsible land stewardship and producing beef you can feel confident serving your family.

How do you raise your cattle?

Our cattle are raised with a focus on responsible ranching practices, animal care, and natural development. We prioritize quality over quantity and aim to maintain a strong connection between the ranch and the families we serve.

Ordering & Product Process

How does the ordering process work?

When you place an order, you are reserving beef that is processed specifically for direct-to-consumer sale. Once processing is complete, your beef is carefully packaged, frozen, and prepared for pickup or delivery.

How do I receive my beef?

After processing at a USDA-inspected facility, your beef is:

Vacuum-sealed and labeled

Frozen for freshness

Packed and organized for easy transport

We will contact you 30 days out from processing to set up delivery or a pickup time.

Payment & Orders

How does payment work?

All beef requires a deposit at the time of reservation, with the remaining balance due prior to or at delivery or pickup.

Are deposits refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable as they secure your order and cover production and processing commitments made on your behalf.

Can I cancel my order?

Due to the custom nature of livestock production and processing, orders may not be canceled once production or allocation has begun.

Product Details

How much beef will I receive?

Yield varies depending on the product purchased, but all orders are carefully processed and packaged for quality and consistency. Each product listing includes estimated weights and details.

How much freezer space will I need?

We recommend planning ahead for freezer space before your order arrives. Most customers use:

A chest freezer (ideal for bulk storage), or

A large upright freezer with multiple shelves

In each beef share description we have suggestions for how much storage you will need to properly store your beef.

Can I choose how my beef is cut?

When you purchase a whole or half beef share customers will have the option to customize your order. If no selection is made by the deadline, standard processing will be used. Quarter beef shares represent an equal share of one half beef. Because the entire half is processed uniformly, custom cut options are not available for 1/4 beef shares.

Delivery & Pickup

Do you offer delivery?

We offer free delivery within a 50 mile radius of Ellis County, TX. If you are outside of the free delivery radius, delivery is offered for an additional fee. Pickup is always free!

When will my order be ready?

Processing timelines vary based on season, facility scheduling, and demand. Customers are notified as soon as their order is ready. We will finalize exact delivery dates to be in September of 2026.

Quality & Processing

Is the beef fresh or frozen?
